Vogue: Georgia’s “Little Tuscany”

“Nicknamed “Little Tuscany”, Kakheti, just a two-hour drive from the capital Tbilisi, is not only one of Georgia’s most beautiful regions, with endless views of mountains and vineyards, but also its most famous wine region, responsible for 70% of Georgia’s wine production.”

In a recent article by Jessica Jungbauer for Vogue, “Georgia’s Little Tuscany”, the region of Kakheti, was highlighted as a must-travel destination. She emphasizes that Kakheti is not only one of Georgia’s most beautiful regions with its endless vineyards, but it’s also the center of the nation’s wine production. Highlighting orange wines (aka amber wines) she writes:

They have the freshness of a white with the depth of a red, making them very versatile for cuisines like Georgian, where many contrasting flavors and textures are served at the same time.”

She continues that Kakheti’s breathtaking, natural landscape makes it a perfect region for a road trip from the capital city of Tbilisi, heading east to the region passing the main Kakhetian towns of Telavi and Sighnahgi, stopping along the way at the many “marani”- family wineries- for a memorable wine tasting.
