IQVE Winery: The Truth is in Qvevri
Givi Adeishvili’s winemaking experience started in his childhood in the 1990s. Qvevri winemaking technology was abandoned in Georgia over the years under the legacy of the Soviet Union. During the Soviet period, people concentrated on mass production, and the quality of Georgian wine was forgotten along with rare grape varieties. Givi made it his life’s mission to to support the Georgian wine industry in the process of shifting from this Soviet legacy of winemaking back to traditional Georgian winemaking which includes the revival of the qvevri fermentation process. He officially founded the brand IQVE (for “in qvevri”) in 2021, bottling his first vintage. Since then, IQVE increased its production to six varieties, and experimentation with traditional Georgian winemaking and rare grape varieties is still ongoing.
IQVE’s wine cellar is located outside of Tbilisi in Saguramo with vineyards in Kakheti and Kvemo Kartli. In 2023, 15,000 bottles of wine were produced with a planned production of up to 50,000 bottles by 2026. IQVE entered the Georgian market in 2022, supplying wines to boutique shops, restaurants, and hotels, with up to 70 clients in Georgia. They moved to export wines in 2024, eyeing to expand their brand worldwide. Givi’s wines continue to be met with enthusiasm from wine drinkers internationally, making IQVE a must-follow for future impact in the Georgian wine category.
