Quick Facts:
In a small village, nestled within the breathtaking landscape of Kakheti, a family’s connection to the vine runs deep. Tengiz Chumbashvili, the winemaker behind Gogushika, was inspired by the memories of his grandfather to breathe life back into a forgotten vineyard. Tengiz’s grandfather moved to the city in the 1970’s, leaving the family’s vineyard unattended, but would continue to visit the village until his death. Tengiz has taken it upon himself to rekindle the family tradition, establishing the present day Gogushika.
Gogushika, a saying of his grandfather meaning ‘a young, restless girl’ sprawls 10 hectares in the village of Gulgula. Embracing the ethos of natural winemaking, Gogushika wines are made with indigenous yeast and using only organic grapes
Winery
The vineyards are meticulously tended, following ancient methods, ensuring every shoot and plant is cared for personally. Every grape has been handpicked and fermented in the traditional qvevri. Gogushika’s first vintage in 2019 marked a labor of love.
